The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) is set to open Australian visa application centre (AVAC) at Accra, the capital and largest city of Ghana.
Visa application center at Accra is likely to commence its operations from 8 February 2012.
Australian high commissioner to Ghana Billy Williams asserted that the new visa application center will be located at Labone, a district in the greater Accra region.
The high commissioner claimed that the new AVAC will provide fast and convenient visa processing services to the applicants seeking to obtain Australian visas.
Williams further stated that the AVAC at Accra will address the needs of Ghanaian people, who want to visit Australia for study, family visits and tourism.
He added that the biometric authentication technologies have evolved into indispensable tools to facilitate the visitors and to combat the crime.
Australia has been using biometric data collection technology in 15 countries across the world.
Meanwhile, the biometric and facial scan facilities will also be provided to the applicants in Australian visa applications center at Ghana. Currently, there’s no Australian visa application center present in Ghana to address the need of mounting number of Ghanaian people traveling to Australia.
People from Ghana who seek to visit Australia have to submit their visa applications to the Australian high commission in Kenya.
After the commencement of AVAC in Ghana Australian visas applicants now will be able to submit their visa applications directly to the AVAC at Accra.
Ghana is a country located in West Africa, the populations of the country hits 24 million.
Meanwhile, Ghana has strong relationships with Australia; both countries have many shared interests and people to people bond.
On the other hand, it is expected that with the establishment of the Australian visa application center in Ghana would beginning of a new chapter in the bilateral relationship between these two countries.
