Overseas Graduates in Australia to Get Work Permits

Foreign students studying at the universities in Australia can now get work permits after the completion of their degrees.

Australia’s immigration authorities have recently amended the work visa regime with an aim to engage the overseas students in the local industries once their studies are over. The objective of this move is to utilise the talent that Australia produces.

These visa reforms are a follow-up of the recently-conducted Michael Knight Review which has urged the government to introduce an effective visa system to accommodate the graduate and post-graduate students as a part of its productive workforce.

Since the Australian universities attract a large number of foreign students every year, majority of them is forced to move back to their respective homeland after getting degrees as they do not find proper opportunities to live and work in Australia.

Now, the amended visa policy will provide the advanced degree holders golden chances to pursue their professional careers in Australia. This will be greatly helpful for the country’s economic growth.

In another joint move, the Australian government has announced to reduce the admission fees for the foreign students so that more bright students of the underdeveloped regions of the world can get higher education in the Australian universities.

Engaging foreign students to supplement the industrial progress is a new phenomenon in international arena. Recently, some of the American lawmakers have also started deliberations on a draft bill which, if passed, will enable the students to get work permits coupled with green cards after completing their studies.

There is no denying the fact that most of the developed western countries bank on overseas workers for running their industries. Currently, a large number of aliens are efficiently working in science, technology and engineering sectors over there.

Australia is one of the states which badly lack in skilled workforce. This new visa rule is likely to bridge this deficiency to a great extent.
