Canada offers foreign nationals involved in the farming business the permanent residency through provincial nominee programs. Manitoba is one of the provinces offering such opportunities to farmers under the age of 40 years who wish to settle in the province by investing in the farming business under the provincial nominee program for young farmers.
The applicants must have the ability and intent to relocate to Manitoba by purchasing a farm or start a partnership with an existing farming business.
Following are the eligibility requirements of the Manitoba Young Farmer program:
The successful applicant will reside in Manitoba with dependent family members. The applicant must demonstrate that the combined farm income and off-farm income will be in excess of $35,000 per year.
The applicants are required to deposit $75,000 with the government of Manitoba as a guarantee to settle in Manitoba. The applicant must start or purchase a farm business within two years of obtaining permanent residence in Manitoba in order to get the security deposit refunded without interest.
Manitoba issues a Certificate of Nomination once the application is approved and security deposit is made. Canadian federal government then approves the permanent residency application after the medical and security clearances.
