Canada immigration under the federal skilled worker class was to accept only 10000 applications from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has received 10000 applications and overall cap has been reached.
The cap of 10000 applications does not apply to the applicants who have arranged employment opinion approved by the Human Resources and Skill Development Canada (HRSDC). Therefore, applicants with approved job offer can still continue to apply for Canada immigration under the Federal Skilled Worker class.
The quota of 1000 for the applicants under the PhD stream is not complete yet. Eligible applicants can submit their application as about 650 applications has been received so far.

The cap of PhD Stream for Canada Immigration started from November 5, 2011 and ends on June 30, 2012.
The Citizenship and Immigration Minister of Canada has announced a number changes to the existing Canada Immigration system in order to make it more efficient and faster. The new changes in Canada immigration will come into forces later this year.
