China to Extend Visas of Overseas Workers

Shanghai’s immigration officials are deliberating on a policy which will give substantial extension to the overseas workers employed in the regional headquarters of multinational firms.

As per the existing immigration regime, the expatriates have to apply for new visas every year. This causes them great loss both in terms of time and money.

The new law will help the foreign employees to stay in Shanghai and work comfortably for relatively longer periods.

The main purpose behind introducing this policy is to attract more multinational companies to set up their regional headquarters in Shanghai.

Since China started providing better facilities and opportunities to the overseas businessmen a couple of years back, a number of companies have moved their headquarters to Shanghai. During 2010 only, at least 347 firms established their regional offices over there.

This has given a huge boost to Shanghai’s economy coupled with creating a number of jobs both for the locals and the expatriates.

The Chinese government is keen to remove all hiccups that lie in the way of immigration of foreign business people and make the country a favourable place for high-profile industrial ventures.

In the midst of the global economic recession, China poses to be a stable and flourishing economy packed with opportunities. Thus, it is rapidly turning to be an ideal immigration destination. Instead of moving to Europe and America, the skilled workers of the Asian and African continents prefer China which offers a warm welcome.

The under-consideration policy is expected to serve the migrants further. Most of the human rights organisations and migrant groups have welcomed this move.

In the modern economic arena, overseas workforce has become crucial for every developed nation. As china aims at emerging as a strong financial power in near future, it also relies over foreigners to cater the needs of its industrial sector.
