China’s immigration and visa authorities are going to formulate and implement a stringent stature like that of the US to curb illegal immigration and ensure foolproof security for both the natives and the aliens alike.
The draft of the new rules, which is currently under consideration in National People’s Congress, revolves around just one point including accumulation of Biological Identification Data of the foreigners aspiring to seek Resident Permits. This is proposed to be done through fingerprinting by the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The bill, if passed, will make it mandatory for all migrants to undergo health checks and report to the local police stations within 24 hours of their arrival to China. Moreover, they will be required to apply for resident certificates within a month.
Remember, the Chinese Parliament introduced a law last year to get all the overseas people tested for AIDS, but it had to be revoked later on the hard-pressed demands of international humanitarian organisations which considered it to be a way of discrimination.
Under the new laws, any foreigner, who is found to be a threat to the national security from any aspect, can be detained for at least 60 days before deportation.
Since China is a recession-free economy, there has been a reasonable surge in the demand of the Chinese visas for last ten years. Manifesting their traditional protectionism, the state’s communist rulers are going to tighten the immigration policy.
Commenting on the objective of the new legislation, the Vice-Minister for Public Security, Yang Huanning said, “Facilitate exchanges while making sure that those who should not enter are kept out.”
Reportedly, the rule of Biological Identification Data will be equally applicable in all international airports and borders check posts in order to curb illegal entries and exits.
