The increased number of higher education universities in Pakistan has been attributed to the reduction in the number of students from Pakistan applying to study in United States educational institutes after the tragic event of 9/11 by Shazia Khan of Fulbright outreach programme in Pakistan.
Well is it the real reason for reduction in number of students opting to study in United States? The number of students going to United States decreased from 8,500 in 2001 to 5,000 in 2012 whereas the number of students going to UK increased many folds during this period. If students opting for Pakistani educational institutes over the foreign institutes were the reason then number of students going to other countries should also have been decreased.
Pakistani students are reluctant to study in USA because of the post 9/11 era policies of the government as well as the overall behaviour of the Americans towards the Muslims and Pakistanis.
Recent education fair held in Pakistan and represented by University of Northern Iowa, Valparaiso University and the University at Buffalo and the State University of New York is good beginning for confidence building of the Pakistani students.
Pakistani students are keen to study abroad for higher education for better employment opportunities at home and abroad.
Pakistani students can benefit greatly from the world-class education provided at the United States education institutions and more of such events will encourage students to decide in favour of United States universities while deciding about studying abroad.
