The first phase of the United States online immigration benefit system named USCIS ELIS has been made available to public by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The system is designed to transform the application filing and immigration benefits adjudicating processes from paper files to digital files.
The officials at the USCIS called it the historical milestone that has laid the foundation for the online future of immigration applications and benefits system.
USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement, “Today marks a significant milestone in our agency’s history. We have launched the foundation for the web-based future of our agency and our immigration benefits system. USCIS ELIS will transform how we interact with our customers and how we manage the 6-7 million applications we receive each year.”
Foreign citizens who entered the United States on short-term basis for study, business, medical treatment or leisure can create a USCIS ELIS online account to request changes to their non-immigrant status now.
USCIS officers can review and arbitrate online files from multiple locations of the agency across United States.
Equipped with tools to fight fraud and identify national security concerns, USCIS ELIS will provide the following benefits:
The launch of the new USCIS ELIS system will reduce the use of paper filing and thus make the applications available for review by immigration officials for decision making shortly after being filed online.
“USCIS employees believe in the transformation of our agency from a paper-based to an online environment. It is through their vision, unwavering commitment, and hard work that we have reached this important milestone,” Mayorkas added.
Future releases of USCIS ELIS will include form types and functions to the system, step by step expanding the system to cover filing and adjudication for all USCIS immigration benefits.
